Outpatient Neuro Rehabilitation Providing LSVT Big Exercise Program - January 6, 2014

What is LSVT BIG?

LSVT BIG is an intensive therapy exercise program for people living with Parkinson’s disease. The program focuses on strength, movement, balance, coordination and function with carryover to everyday life activities. Each treatment focuses on the production of large amplitude (BIGGER) whole body movements. These treatments have been shown to provide the following benefits:

  • Improved walking (bigger steps, faster speed, decreased fall risk and improved balance)
  • Improved movement quality with bigger and more controlled movements to increase independence with dressing, self cares, cooking and mobility
  • Overall increase in quality of life

On With Life’s LSVT BIG-certified therapists Gail McGaughy, MPT, and Jess Borysiewicz, OTR/L, will teach patients how to avoid inactivity and keep movements alive during everyday activities, improving the quality of life.

How is the program delivered?

This program was developed specifically to address the unique movement impairments for people with Parkinson's disease. The protocol is both intensive and complex, with many repetitions of core movements that are used in daily living. At On With Life, the LSVT BIG program is directed by both a physical and occupational therapist. The intense program requires a commitment of 16, 60-minute sessions administered over 4 weeks.
