On With Life's Supported Community Living (SCL) Program was created in 1998 to provide specialized support to allow persons who have experienced a brain injury or other neurological impairment to maintain and improve their independence.
Our goal is to develop skills required for self advocacy and meaningful community relationships. Our community living specialists collaborate with the person served, his or her family, support system and case managers to develop a coordinated plan focused on maximizing personal skills. Ongoing meetings are held to chart progress and plan strategies to minimize barriers.
Services are provided to individuals in their homes and community where they reside. We currently provide services in Polk, Warren, Jasper, Story, Dallas, Marion and other counties in Central Iowa.
Services may include:
Skill development services are provided to promote independence and ongoing community integration. Referrals to schools, employers, training programs, Iowa vocational rehabilitation services and places of worship are made to help address educational, vocational, cultural and spiritual needs.
On With Life is the only organization in the United States to trial the jDome, an interactive bike that allows persons served to virtually bike anywhere in the world!
On With Life and Mercy Medical Center are partnering to offer the 2nd Annual Brain Injury Conference: Recovery, Presentation and Long-Term Issues of Care. The conference is scheduled for Friday, June 23 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
