On With Life Testimonials
"At first when I heard of On With Life I sort of dreaded it, meeting new people and getting to know a new place. Now we were here for four weeks and I feel it's a God given blessing to have been able to come here and meet all the nice people and we wish you God blessings as you continue your work here.I was torn by the decision to have my wife Marj admitted to On With Life. We Lived over 100 Miles Away. Many friends had come to visit her on a daily basis while she lay in the hospital. I too could come multiple times per day to see her while still being able to put some time in at work. What would happen when she and I were not together on a daily basis? Would she get upset that the decision had been made to have her stay in a new place, by herself, a few hours away from family and friends?
To our delight, transferring Marj to On With Life was the best decision that we could have made. This is a premium facility and is patient and family friendly. The nursing staff is warm, enthusiastic and clearly, appropriately trained. The rehabilitation staff (occupational, physical, music, recreation, and speech) is patient, knowledgeable, and adept at working with patients and their families. In our case, prior to Marj's transfer to this facility, she was assessed as being significantly impaired and that it would take a great deal of time for Marj to show signs of improvement. Marj, with the help of the staff, proved us wrong. With resolve she took full advantage of her care and began to demonstrate advances in all areas. Her speech and memory improved. She learned to do some writing with her left hand. She began ambulating on her own, first in a wheel chair, then with a walker, and finally with a cane. She then began to initiate movement with her right arm and hand.
Throughout all these experiences, Marj, my family, and I were pleased with the wonderful experiences that we were having with On With Life. Staff taught me many ways that I too could directly participate in Marj's care. Furthermore, even when I was not present, I was always kept informed of any development in Marj's care plan and was given the ability to take an active decision making role in this plan.
The best thing that I can say about our experience with On With Life followed a turn in Marj's health that required readmission to a hospital. After a brief stay in which Marj's condition was quickly stabilized, we both realized how much we wanted Marj to return to the devotion in care and therapy she was receiving at On With Life. We both thought of it as her (and mine) "surrogate" home, a place that was full of thoughtfulness, love and optimism. We knew that the sooner we returned there the sooner Marj would return to her "other" home with me, our family, and our friends."
