On With Life, a Midwest leader in brain injury rehabilitation, will be hosting its 7th Annual Golf Outing and Silent Auction on Thursday, August 1 at Otter Creek Golf Course. Attendees will enjoy lunch, an afternoon of golf, followed by a silent auction and dinner. Guests will also hear a personal story of someone whose life has been touched by the services provided by On With Life.
Lizz Cassler’s first-hand experience with On With Life led her and her mother, Barb, to serve as Honorary Co-Chairs for this year’s event. In December 2008, Lizz was traveling with friends after school when the car hit a patch of “black ice”, and smacked into an oncoming truck. She had sustained a severe traumatic brain injury and the doctors weren’t sure she would live. After almost four weeks in the hospital, she was admitted to On With Life where staff helped her get her life back by relearning daily life activities such as eating, drinking, standing, and walking.
Lizz had plans to attend UNI on a soccer scholarship and study to become a physical therapist or child life specialist, stating “Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would need the services of a physical therapist or a child life specialist myself.”
The golf outing and silent auction is an annual fundraising event for On With Life. Past proceeds have allowed for the purchases of specialized therapy equipment to improve the lives of persons served including a Visi-Pitch to improve speech, Tilt ‘n Space wheelchairs, and a SaeboFlex system to maximize arm and hand function. Over the past five years, this event has put more than $250,000 dollars directly back into the programs dedicated to helping persons served get “On With Life”. With the communities help, On With Life will continue to seek out the best equipment and services to improve the lives of those living with brain injury.
“Our family has experienced the benefits of On With Life and we’re happy to support an organization that truly helps families when they need it most,” said Lizz. “Not only did On With Life help me, they helped my entire family. I wouldn't be where I am today without them.”
Lizz and her family ask businesses and individuals to consider being a sponsor, golfing, or contributing to the On With Life Golf Outing and Silent Auction. If you wish to donate items for the silent auction or would like additional information about becoming a sponsor, please contact the Foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (515)-289-9611.
