Lolo officially joined the On With Life family in mid-October 2014, serving as a facility therapy dog in our Post-Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation program. Placing a facility dog like Lolo at On With Life was the vision of Kam Stupka, On With Life, Inc. board member and director of membership services at the Iowa Association for Justice (IAJ). IAJ selected On With Life as their latest Justice in Deed project recipient, which links trial lawyers with community organizations to serve Iowans in need of assistance. IAJ began fundraising for the purchase and training of an On With Life facility dog in 2013 and committed to raise the $10,000 needed to breed, raise, and fully train Lolo.
Our therapy and nursing teams have already seen a number of benefits of having Lolo join the On Wife Life team, including the following example:
"A great example of the benefits of having Lolo join the On With Life team happened in one of our therapy sessions today. John is a person served who has been presenting with his eyes fixated to the right with no visual tracking noted after almost two weeks at On With Life despite multiple attempts to track objects and faces. Today, John looked up with his eyes to find Lolo along with tracking her to the left visual field and moving his head to the left!! On top of that Lolo sat so nicely in his lap for 10 minutes while I placed his hand on her back noting slight movements of his digits in attempts to pet her! Such an awesome inspiring moment to see!" - From Kelsee Hove, Occupational Therapist at On With Life
