Job Overview

As a leader in Brain Injury and Neuro Rehabilitation, On With Life seeks a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Medical Director to support the mission of the organization. The medical director will set the direction of our organization from a clinical care perspective pursuant to our mission, vision, and values to the benefits of our persons served, families, and caregivers.

The On With Life PM&R Medical Director role leads and supports all care initiatives for persons with brain injury and other neurological conditions ages 10 and greater. 

Responsibilities for Medical Director

• Works with the Clinical Director to guide and oversee daily clinical operations for all departments and services
• Works closely with the physician assistant and nursing leadership to ensure high standards of medical care and good communication between team members.
• Works with the executive leadership team to set strategy and goals in keeping with the On With Life mission, vision, and values
• Supports and guides the strategic planning process including development of plans and implementation of strategies
• Fosters the use of evidence-based practices throughout the organization
• Works directly with persons served, family members, and community providers to provide education on our care processes
• Documents, codes and bills for services including inpatient rounding and outpatient clinics which may include but not be limited to Botox Administration and Baclofen Pump Management
• Works with the performance improvement and analytics teams to develop, analyze and report on QAPI and outcomes
• Represents On With Life at both a local and national level participating in committees and boards in support of the On With Life mission
• Represents On With Life to promote and market services
• Works closely with and participates as a part of the transdisciplinary team
• Serves as the medical expert in dealings with community members, referral sources, vendors and non-medical facilities that work with the On With Life
• Builds relationships with medical specialties in support of the many unique medical needs of the populations we serve
• Manages and oversees the delivery of medical care and clinical services including performance improvement, utilization review, research, quality assurance, and medical guideline and protocol development
• Supports admissions and continued stay efforts by representing On With Life with payors and participating in the authorization and appeal process
• Develops policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of persons served
• Participates in various administrative and clinical staff meetings
• Maintains confidentiality of all information related to persons served, medical staff and employees
• Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees
• Oversees the activities of ancillary physicians, including the recruiting and credentialing processes

Qualifications for Medical Director

• Valid license to practice medicine required in the State of Iowa
• Board Certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• 10+ years’ experience in rehabilitation medicine
• Able to enter information in the electronic health record and compile reports or data as requested
• 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role
• Superb judgment, problem-solving and cognitive skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Current knowledge of brain injury and neurologic rehabilitation medicine and best practices
• Superior leadership skills
