Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic Among Posthospital Brain Injury Rehabilitation Providers

The initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic threatened access to care and the health and safety of person served, staff, and families in the post-acute setting. As part of the Foundation to Advance Brain Rehabilitation (FABR), On With Life took a leading role in informing the rehabilitation field of the challenges faced by these providers. This article describes steps taken to contain this threat by seven leading post-acute acquired brain injury rehabilitation organizations.

The article, which is co-authored by On With Life’s Clinical Director, Dave Anders, talks through the steps taken during the early phases of the pandemic. The paper details the ways providers were stretched to adapt services to safely provide care for persons served and staff. It discusses the financial cost of these actions, changes to the evaluation of admissions, and much needed focus on staff well-being. Click here to access the study.
