One of On With Life's holiday traditions is an annual outing to Target so our persons served can enjoy a holiday shopping experience and purchase gifts for their loved ones. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic staff were unable to take persons served out of the building this year, however that did not stop this tradition from happening. Instead, we brought Target to On With Life.
Our staff's hard work and creativity combined with the generosity and support of our community made for an in-house Target shopping experience On With Life will remember for years to come. Our Target store was complete with the usual Target décor, staff in red shirts and khakis, a checkout counter and Starbucks station. Thanks to the many donations we received, we were able to create and stock many shelves with a wide variety of gifts to shop from.
Our persons served then took turns visiting the store with therapists, scanning the shelves for items their loved ones would enjoy. Each individual was allocated a certain amount of fake money to 'purchase' their gifts with, allowing them to practice budgeting skills during this fun experience. Once shopping was complete they could check out at the counter, grab a Starbucks and head to the wrapping station to complete the process.
In a crazy year like 2020, this unique holiday shopping experience brought so much joy to all those involved. We are so grateful for our staff for coming up with this idea and for implementing it beautifully. We are also so thankful for our strong community who came together to make this project possible.
