New Horizons Outdoor Space
Support the Project!
This year’s Ankeny Leadership Class is helping On With Life transform the outdoor space at New Horizons Center. The class is working to develop a comprehensive exterior plan as well as fundraising strategies to support the plan.

Why? The outdoors is a big part of life for many individuals, yet New Horizons is lacking an outdoor environment that meets the needs of persons served. The creation of this improved outdoor space will have multiple physical, psychological and social benefits for those On With Life serves living with brain injury or other neurological conditions. In addition to the advantages of practicing strength and mobility on multiple surfaces, an outdoor environment provides significantly more sensory stimuli than an indoor environment. There is strong research showing that direct contact with the outdoors increases mental health and both psychological and spiritual development, such as stress reduction, a sense of belonging and a broader sense of community.
