Herman Meinders
All the way from Oklahoma City, Herman Meinders has made a tremendous impact at On With Life.
A connection made through longtime volunteer for On With Life, Janelle Conley, Herman has supported numerous projects at On With Life over the years through his foundation:
- The Janelle Conley Butterfly Garden
- Music and art therapy
- Musical equipment for programs
- Staff support during the COVID pandemic
The Meinders Foundation was also one of the top contributors to the Giant Strides Capital Campaign that supported renovations to the inpatient facility and the build of the new outpatient center that opened in 2023 in Ankeny.
“My mother made sure I gave a nickel to Sunday School every week. I have been very blessed in my life, and I think the more I give, the more I receive. I just hope it will carry forward and complete the circle, those receiving help to later give help. If everybody gave back some, it would be pretty good, wouldn’t it?” – Herman Meinders
Even after his passing in March 2025, Herman’s legacy of philanthropy and generosity will continue to live on at On With Life. In his honor, the Meinders Foundation made a final one-million-dollar donation to the organization. A small portion was used to support last year’s Celebrate Life fundraising event, and the rest has been allocated for upcoming projects in both Ankeny and Polk City.
